As we wrap up the first week of May, here are 5 evergreen success tips to help create change and the outcomes you desire this spring:
1. THINK PURPOSE OVER PASSION
It seems like everywhere you look people are preaching, "follow your passion". Yet at times, passions and feelings can be fickle and deceiving. It's much better to invest some time and energy into discerning what your purpose is in life. Why are you here and what were you made to do? Knowing your purpose and then defining clear goals that are in alignment with your purpose are much more important than simply following your passions. Make a decision and go after it.
2. KEEP THE FOCUS
Did you know that the average 25-34 year old checks their phone 50 times a day (and between ages 18-24, it's 74 times a day)? That's more than 3 to 4 times every waking hour. Studies show that no matter what type of interruption takes place, once we are distracted, our brains need an average of 25 minutes to get back to the original task. Imagine how much more you could accomplish if you blocked out distractions and invested quality focused time on your goals. Do you turn off notifications and alerts? Do you protect focused time each day for your most important tasks? Eliminate distractions, stay the course, and get it done.
3. BOOKEND YOUR DAYS
89% of people check their phones first thing in the morning... before brushing their teeth, saying good morning to their significant other, or even going to the bathroom. If you want to be successful, get in the 11% and then develop a quality morning routine that includes quiet time, some form of movement or exercise, and habits that will nourish your body, mind, and soul. This will have you showing up as a much better version of yourself each day. Closing off your evening with a similar routine has also been proven to significantly improve performance.
4. EMBRACE FRUSTRATION
Instead of throwing in the towel when things aren't going your way, attend to your emotions and take them as a little internal GPS signal that change is in order. Commit to developing heightened personal awareness so that you can navigate and learn from your emotions. What led to your feelings of frustration? What role did you play in the situation that you're in? What are some of the changes that you need to make to create a different outcome? What's the learning lesson here? Rest, reflect, and re-set. Be the captain of your soul.
5. TAKE ACTION
As Tony Robbins says, "the path to success is to take massive, determined action". Do not be a student for life who never does anything. Nobody will ever care about your vision as much as you do, or build your dreams or do the work for you. Talk is still cheap and nobody's buying. When you set a goal, do something right away that will take you one step closer. Not tomorrow, next week, or next month. Do it right now and create your own momentum.
