
Take 5: Assessing Goal Achievement
As we finish out the first quarter of 2016, it’s the perfect time to reflect on where you are, what has been working, and what could be improved before we kick off the month of April.
In Episode #1 of my Shine Bright podcast, I spoke about common goal setting mistakes and how to avoid them. It you feel that you are missing the mark with where you want to be, stop and ask yourself the following questions:
Are you clear about what you want to achieve and more importantly, why you want to achieve it?
Do you have a comprehensive plan that will lead you to success?
Do you have a supportive environment in which you can flourish?
Are you truly committed to achieving your goal?
If you’ve answered no to one or more of these questions, stop and reassess your approach to goal achievement. If you set goals but neglect to act on them or put a proper plan in place, you will be left with feelings of frustration, anxiety, and doubt (this can be a slippery slope).
Start over by checking in on your value system: What is important to you? What do you really want to make happen? Who do you want to influence? How do you want to be of service?
Then look at your current situation and assess any areas of inner conflict: Do your actions match your words? Is this your goal or someone else’s? Are you neglecting what you intuitively know is best?
Lastly, get support on gaining clarity, focus, and a roadmap for success. Life is too short to sit back and watch from the sidelines. This is real life, not a dress rehearsal. Remember that what you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals (Zig Ziglar).
